Mother's Day is here, and I'd be lying if I said that I was anything less than absolutely compelled to share some messages related to 'The Mother' that have been coming thru from Spirit recently. I wanted to post this days ago, but a migraine headache has prevented both that, and my being with both of my children, my mother, and sisters today (sniffle, sniffle). But, this post isn't about me.
Mothers, Grandmothers, and messages about mothering in a variety of ways, have been pouring through in readings with my clients, situations in my own life, and through direct straightforward communication (often interference) from Spirit, since the last full moon (April 22). Coincidently this last Mother Moon, as I am now referring to it, was in my own mother's sun sign of Scorpio, but I digress ;).
The messages The Mother has been expressing comes in two parts, based on which archetype played out strongest in the woman in question's life: Good Mother or Bad Mother.
The Good Mothers and Grandmothers who have been showing up to my readings, have recently been presenting themselves as Guardians. Many mother's in Spirit, whose souls are at the proper point in their evolution, choose to act as Spirit Guides, or Guardian Guides, to their children, grandchildren, partners (if they are still on earth), and even to their greater extended family and friends. Oftentimes, the mother spirit shows us that she is always near her children. This is because this is her chosen task in Spirit: to look after her loved ones, and to help facilitate making their lives easier. One grandmother lovingly and playfully identified herself as her granddaughter's 'Fairy Grandmother!" (the two never met in the physical) .
Mother Spirits are often (often, often, often) with you in the kitchen, standing with you at the stove, and sitting down to coffee with you. As you sit, you may feel a warm chill, reminding you of her caress, you may catch a whiff of her cologne, or smell the smoke from the cigarettes she always smoked, or you may catch a beautiful flicker of light as you look out the window, or catch the glimmer of a butterfly flying by and be reminded of her. These Good Mother spirits have been exhibiting that they often communicate to their loved ones in physical ways, such as pressure, or chills, or signs of nature: particularly in plants, flying insects, rays of light, the moon, flowing water, and rainbows. However the most common way mother spirits communicate is through claircognizance, or clear knowing. She will speak to you, in your own mind, and you will simply know that it was her words or guidance. You just know that your mom is near. Trust it. She is.
These evolved Good Mother Spirits want to help make your life easier, and they do so in many ways, such as helping to facilitate organization around the home, ensuring basic safety measures are covered in the home and on the road, assisting you in your relationships, and the number one way Mothers in Spirit have shown up for their kids on earth? --> by helping to bring them to joy. Your mother wants you to drop the stress (it's a distraction), and to look at yourself, your family, your life; what you've created, with fresh eyes. Your Mother in Spirit wants to help to shine a light on your heart, on your body, and on your mind, to help lead you to choosing the activities and relationships that bring you joy. More than anything, she wants you to be happy, and to enjoy the blessings of being on earth.
The Bad Mother's and Grandmothers who have been showing up to my readings lately have been presenting themselves as Students. These are women, who whether deserving or not, have realized all of the mistakes they made as Mother while they were living, and wish to express that. These Mother's in Spirit always break my heart, because now in Spirit, they prove their love to be unconditional -- something they did not show their loved ones while they were living.
How does a 'Bad Mother' prove their love in Spirit?
1)Identifying the key trait(s) behind their negative behavior on earth (ex. perfectionism) that got in their way of expressing The Good Mother archetype.
2)Expressing themselves as The Student. These Mothers believe that they have learned more from You than you ever gained from them, and they are ready to give you specific examples of how You continue to teach them and help them to grow in their own spiritual evolution. They look up to you, they are in awe of you, they look on your life and are taking notes, they feel something close to pride, but it's more humble than that, because they feel they had no part in your greatness.
3)Offering assistance. The Mother often offers help and specific tips and suggestions for how the child can avoid making the same mistakes the Mother did in her life(lives), and or otherwise to help direct them to live a life of appreciation that is in line with their heart, and therefore, true life purpose.
4)Offering apologies. The Mother who comes through in Spirit with messages of regret, and apology have spent much time and effort in Spirit learning about their mistakes, how to do better going forward, and how to rectify their wrongs. Part of their work lies in learning to communicate to their loved ones now that they are in Spirit. This part takes a lot of hard work and effort on your deceased loved one's part as learning to communicate to people still on earth is frankly, very difficult. By the time a spirit has come through to the physical, you can bet that they have utilized great amounts of energy to do so. It takes great determination for a spirit to get a message across to the living.
The most beautiful thing for me to witness with these apologies, is that the Mother never asks for nor expects, forgiveness. She doesn't. She truly doesn't. Because now, at her vantage point in Spirit, she deeply knows and feels the depth of damage that her mistakes have caused you. She doesn't expect, or even hope, that you will you forgive her. That is why, I believe, they save the apologies for last, because they want to offer the apology, like setting a gift at your feet, then turn to walk away. If you choose to pick up the gift, and accept the apology, that is your free will choice to do so or to not to do so. If you do, I can assure you that a truly wonderful relationship between you and your Mother in Spirit, can unfold. Old patterns can be undone and erased, old, long held traumas can be released from your body, mind, and personality, and a new era of healing and peace can begin for all.
Spirit wants me to let you know that your mothers and grandmother's in Spirit are very much with you in countless ways, and they are trying to communicate to you, so slow down when you can and open yourself to receiving the messages. Open yourself to her presence, open yourself to receiving the healing that she strives to send to you. And above all, know that regardless of how things looked and played out when she was here, your mother loves you. Deeply. Unconditionally. Perhaps more than she loves herself.
In honor of the Mothers in Spirit, and their children on Earth, I wish to extend a Mother's Day gift by way of offering 25% off on my Mediumship Readings booked through next Sunday, May 15. To take advantage of this special, simply enter: Mom2016 at checkout.
Here now, a Part 2 on archetypes and topics Spirit would like us to consider today -->
Jungian psychology teaches us that all human beings are born with the imprint of The Universal Archetypes in their unconscious minds. There are many, many archetypes, and many aspects of each archetype, as well. If we step back and look at our selves, our lives, and those around us, and with some knowledge of the archetypes and mythology, we can actually see how they play out in our lives. At any given moment, we have assumed the role of some archetype or another, and we play through that drama with the people in our lives, all the while experiencing, and hopefully learning and growing.
Whether we identify as male or female or not, we all get a chance to experience most archetypes at some point in our lives. This also means that a woman who never experiences motherhood, can still experience the mothering archetype in a different way (perhaps as auntie, or thru caring for pets). Likewise, even the most masculine man can take on the archetype of mother, say for instance with needing to step in and care for a loved one who has fallen ill, or helping someone to tenderly dress a wound.
So, as we experience Mother's Day, no matter how The Mother looks in our lives, no matter how present or absent our own mother was, no matter how we succeeded or failed as a mother, no matter how we supported the mother's in our life, or how we beat them down, The Mother is a core archetype that runs like a deep, deep river through your soul. Take a moment this weekend to step back and look at it. Allow yourself to close your eyes, lean your head back in your chair, and drift off to when you were in the womb, then born, an infant, a child growing, and on up through the years until today. Was your experience with The Mother as a baby and child a positive warm one, or did it leave you cold, afraid, and untrusting? How has your experience with The Mother in your life shaped your path? What have these experiences taught you about giving and receiving love? Spirit wants to think about all the many different ways the theme of Mother has surfaced in your life.
Here some specific topics to think on:
THE MOTHER IN NATURE:
Mother/Father God: The first concept of Mother comes from the birth of creation, where the Mother Father God create the universe.
Mother Earth: the earth, born from Mother/Father God, births and nurtures all life on the planet.
Grandmother Moon: the moon orbits the earth, the ever watchful mother of earth. Her gentle, hands off approach, sheds light on the darkness on earth, and within men. She affects and directs the tide, the cycles of women, and thereby when new children are born upon the earth.
Water: in close relationship to Grandmother Moon, all water forms embody the feminine principle. Usually Gentle and soft to the touch, but relentless and strong in persistence and will, free flowing, natural water sources teach us how to surrender: to the universe, to life, to our mate.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MOTHER
Good Mother / Bad Mother Archetype: The good mother, or super mom, is the goal, and often expectation of and for many women. To be The Essential, The Best Mom Ever, is what many strive for, often to their own detriment. The key is to find balance. No one is perfect, no one can live up to the outrageous expectations society puts on mothers, so extend the gentleness you offer others, to yourself and other mothers you know. Most every mother must travel through the frightening story line where she either acts as, or is otherwise portrayed or seen as, The Bad Mother. The Bad Mother is cold, distant, rejecting, withholding, unaffectionate, inexpressive, hurtful, curt, cold, punishing, hurtful, demeaning, and often abusive in word and action. Some sadly, get stuck in this pattern, only to realize it once they have crossed over to Spirit.
Spiritual Center of Family: Most typically, it is the partner who embodies The Mother, who is the spiritual center of the family. The connection to, and relationship with Spirit that The Mother has directly influences the spiritual lives and development of those around her, particularly the children and partner.
Receptivity/Rejection: A quintessential quality of The Good Mother, she is always there with open arms, shoulder to lean or cry on, and with something nourishing to eat. The Good Mother is open and receptive to her young and their needs (a quality that often extends to others in her community). Whereas, coldness, rejection, abandonment, and abuse are expressions of The Bad Mother flip-side.
Giving: balanced Mother energy knows how to effectively give, not only to others, but to herself, as well. Withholding is the negative manifestation of this quality.
Here are some other topics to consider: How have these themes surfaced in your own life?
THE MOTHER IN MYTH
Mother Mary: The devout, loyal, kind, compassionate, warm nurturer.
Demeter: The firey, strong, productive earth mother, who is forced to share her child with her ex.
Hathor: The commanding, Goddess of Creation is equally revered for her capacity for both creation and destruction. She is equal parts both Mother archetypes. She also embodies the balance of home life and career.
The Second Mother: The Spiritual, or Second Mother, is a nonbiological monarch who usually enters our life in early adulthood, and helps set us on a meaningful spiritual path.
What other Mother's do you know from mythology? Where do they fall on the Good Mother/Bad Mother spectrum, and can you see ways that their stories have become part of your own?
I will end here, for now, my friends, but below are some more 'Mother' concepts for your consideration..
THE MOTHER IN CULTURE: Matriarchal Cultures, Elephant social structure, Women's Rights, Equality, Single Mother Stigmas, Mother as father, Honoring Mothers, Supporting Mothers, Women who are not biological mothers, Men in relation to women, The Mother Archetype in Men, The Father-Mother.
I wish you all a day of pleasant reflection, and ultimately of realizing how you can better mother yourself.
With much Love and Blessings,
