Close your eyes, and plug your ears. Hear the currents of your blood rushing through your body? These are the same currents that run through your brothers and sisters, that run through the earth, that run through the Universe. It has a rhythm, can you hear it? It beats in time to your heartbeat, and to the heartbeat of the Earth.
The Drum comes up for us when we need realignment. When we've gotten out of touch with our own bodies rhythms. Sometimes our minds outrun our bodies, even our Spirit can leave our bodies gasping for air, at times. This is when we need to pause and re-synchronize our energies to beat in time with one solid rhythm.
Whether or not you have a drum, you can sit. You can still yourself. You can listen to yourself. You can listen to the Divine. You can allow your heart, your body, and your mind, to beat in time to the One beat that unites us all. Simply sitting, and allowing yourself to tune into this internal rhythm is enough to give you the idea of where to go from here in order to keep it all intact.
Meditating on the beat of the heart, or the rush of the blood in your body, is grounding indeed. It brings us in deep touch with our powerful, yet vulnerable bodies. It brings us in touch with our Mother, with the ground beneath or feet, and it brings us in touch with all who dance to this internal beat (hint: it's everything in the Universe).
Take a moment to remember who you are today. You are Spirit, living, breathing, in flesh and bone and blood and stone. It is a gift to partake in the dance.
Today's card was drawn from Jamie Sams' Sacred Path Cards. Below is her description of the card.
If the Talking Drum has spoken to you, you are being asked to find your own internal timing. You may be pushing too hard or missing a beat. In any case, being out of sync calls for realignment with the body's needs. Rhythm us a personal thing. To honor your own rhythm is to come back into harmony with the Self. From this point, personal comfort allows you to harmonize with other rhythms of life.
The Drum also speaks of allowing yourself to be supported by Mother Earth's heartbeat. That is to say, your mind may be outdistancing what your body can handle and the body cannot pull needed energy from the Earth because it is trying to keep up with your thoughts. If this applies, you are missing a beat. Slow down and rediscover the heartbeat of your true Mother. Then the synchronicity of your movements will be effortless.
In all cases, rhythm is the key. Become aware of all rhythms and see how yours fits in. If it feels right, you become the music and the dance you are dancing becomes a celebration of life.
